domains / software-engineering / git-pr-orchestration / git-pr-workflows-git-workflow
The two skills describe the same high-level goal (moving code from local changes to a PR) but diverge significantly in implementation strategy and safety constraints. The first skill (rmyndharis) is a 'multi-agent orchestration' template that relies on specific subagent types (code-reviewer, test-automator) and a rigid 3-phase pipeline with specific JSON output formats. It lacks safety gates regarding branch protection or repository policy. The second skill (sickn33) is a 'guarded' workflow that prioritizes repository policy (AGENTS.md), branch protection, and manual verification steps (git status, gh pr view) over automated subagent delegation. It explicitly forbids bypassing policy and includes a 'Policy Gate' phase that the first skill completely omits. Combining them is necessary to capture both the automated quality assurance steps (from skill 1) and the critical safety/policy compliance steps (from skill 2).

--- name: git-pr-workflows-git-workflow description: "Orchestrate a guarded Git workflow from code review to PR creation, combining multi-agent quality checks with strict repository policy compliance." --- # Guarded Git PR Workflow with Multi-Agent Orchestration Move completed changes from local review to a verified pull request. This workflow combines automated multi-agent quality assurance with strict adherence to repository policy and branch protection. ## When to Use - When completed implementation work must be reviewed, tested, committed, and opened as a PR. - When you need to coordinate specialized agents for code review and testing while ensuring compliance with repository-specific rules. ## Policy Gate (Critical) Before any mutation or agent delegation: 1. **Read Repository Policy**: Inspect `AGENTS.md`, contribution guides, and nested instructions. Repository policy wins over user flags or shorthand. 2. **Inspect Branch State**: Check current branch, worktree, remotes, and target-branch protection. 3. **Discover Native Commands**: Identify repository-specific validation, commit, and PR commands. 4. **Preserve User Work**: Ensure unrelated dirty/staged files are not touched. *Note: Trunk-based development does not imply direct push. If the target is protected, use a short-lived branch and PR.* ## Inputs Resolve from request and repository: - Target branch (default: repository default). - Intended changed files (exclude user work). - Required checks (test, lint, security, build). - Branch naming and commit conventions. - PR state (draft vs. ready) and required reviewers/labels. ## Workflow ### 1. Capture the Exact Change ```bash git status --short --branch git diff --stat git diff --cached --stat git branch --show-current git remote -v ``` Confirm every file in scope. Stop if staged/dirty files cannot be separated safely. ### 2. Multi-Agent Review and Analysis If subagents are available and authorized, assign independent bounded passes. If not, perform these checks manually. **A. Code Quality Assessment** - *Agent*: `code-reviewer` - *Task*: Review uncommitted changes for style, security, performance, and error handling. - *Output*: Structured report with severity levels (critical/high/medium/low). **B. Dependency and Breaking Change Analysis** - *Agent*: `code-reviewer` - *Task*: Analyze new dependencies, breaking API changes, and schema modifications. - *Context*: Use issues from Step A. - *Output*: Breaking change assessment and migration requirements. **C. Security and Policy Compliance** - *Agent*: `security-reviewer` (or manual check) - *Task*: Check for secrets, permissions, and dependency risks. Verify compliance with repository policy. ### 3. Testing and Validation **A. Test Execution** - *Agent*: `test-automator` - *Task*: Execute unit, integration, and E2E tests. Generate coverage report. - *Context*: Ensure tests cover critical issues identified in Phase 2. - *Output*: Test results and coverage metrics. **B. Gap Analysis** - *Agent*: `test-automator` - *Task*: Identify missing test scenarios and edge cases based on results and breaking changes. **Validation Rule**: Do not weaken gates or hide skipped tests. If a check fails, identify the cause (source vs. environment) and fix only in-scope source defects. Rerun the complete required suite after fixes. ### 4. Commit Message Generation **A. Change Categorization** - *Agent*: `code-reviewer` - *Task*: Categorize changes per Conventional Commits (feat/fix/docs/etc.). Determine if single or multiple atomic commits are needed. **B. Message Creation** - *Agent*: `prompt-engineer` (or manual) - *Task*: Create Conventional Commit messages. - *Format*: `<type>(<scope>): <subject>` + body (what/why) + footer (BREAKING CHANGE if applicable). - *Constraint*: Subject max 50 chars. Include issue references. ### 5. Prepare Branch and Commit 1. Fetch the target branch. 2. If on a protected/default branch, create a topic branch: ```bash git fetch origin <target-branch> git switch -c <topic-branch> origin/<target-branch> ``` 3. Stage only intended paths. 4. Create focused conventional commits. 5. Rebase if strict checks demand the latest target. Never force push shared branches without explicit authorization. ### 6. Push and Create Pull Request ```bash git push -u origin <topic-branch> gh pr create --base <target-branch> --head <topic-branch> \ --title "<conventional title>" --body-file <body-file> ``` **PR Body Requirements**: - What changed and why. - Tests and validation actually run. - Risk, deployment, rollback, and breaking-change notes. - Issue links and repository checklists. *Never mark pending automated reviews or tests as completed.* ### 7. Verify Remote Result ```bash gh pr view <pr-number> --json headRefOid,baseRefOid,mergeable, mergeStateStatus, url gh pr checks <pr-number> ``` - Bind review evidence to the current full head SHA. - If head/base changes, discard stale conclusions and rerun checks. - Use the repository's guarded merge path. Do not replace required checks with raw merge APIs. ## Stop Condition Finish when: - The PR exists at the intended head. - Required checks are green or have one exact blocker. - Review evidence is current. - Unrelated user work is preserved. - Any requested guarded merge or deployment is verified. ## Limitations - Cannot bypass branch protection, required reviews, or permissions. - Does not authorize destructive cleanup or force pushes beyond user request and policy. - Keep unresolved environment failures explicit; do not convert them into source changes without evidence.
