Use when deciding whether a materials result clears Advanced Materials' advance-and-broad-impact gate, or whether it belongs in Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Science, Small, or Advanced Materials Interfaces. Diagnoses venue fit; does not write or characterize the material.

When to use

• Deciding venue fit for Advanced Materials
• Evaluating if a result clears the advance-and-broad-impact gate
• Distinguishing between Advanced Materials and Advanced Functional Materials
• Assessing if work is incremental optimization or a genuine advance
• Stress-testing broad impact and design rules
• Determining if a result belongs in Small, Advanced Science, or Advanced Materials Interfaces

When not to use

• Writing the manuscript
• Characterizing the material
• Performing experimental validation
