Skill card

combined

The two copies overlap on the core Ansoff 2x2 structure and the risk gradient, but they disagree on the procedure and output. phuryn/pm-skills is a self-contained, prescriptive template that lists concrete strategies and examples per quadrant and ends with a prioritized roadmap. deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills is an evidence-backed research workflow that enforces a question budget, a search-plan gate, Fact/Inference/Assumption labels, a strict output schema, and a risk-rated sequence. Crowning one would hide a real alternative: a quick strategic template versus a rigorous, evidence-gated research run.

# Ansoff Matrix (Combined)

## Purpose
Map growth options across the Ansoff Matrix. Use the template mode for a quick strategic overview, or the evidence-backed mode when the output must be defensible to stakeholders.

## Input
- Company or product line and its current core (who is served, with what, at what scale).
- Growth outcome and horizon.
- Constraints: capital, capability, risk appetite.
- Optional: existing research (landscape scan, five forces, company intel, voice-of-customer themes).

## Procedure
1. **Define the core.** State the current product and current market clearly. All quadrants are defined relative to this core.
2. **Choose the depth.**
   - **Template mode:** Use the strategy lists below to populate each quadrant with 2-3 candidate moves. No external research required.
   - **Evidence-backed mode:** Before populating, show a 3-bullet search plan (what to search per quadrant, source types, fact/inference separation). Populate each quadrant only with moves backed by documented signals (segment data, expressed demand, competitor precedent, capability evidence). Label each move as Fact, Inference, or Assumption. Do not invent market sizes or demand claims; flag sizing gaps for a separate TAM/SAM/SOM analysis.
3. **Populate the quadrants.**

### 1. Market Penetration (Current Product + Current Market)
- Increase usage frequency, expand use cases, acquire competitors' customers, reduce churn, upsell/cross-sell, lower prices for price-sensitive segments, increase brand awareness, improve CX for referrals.
- Risk: Low. Timeline: 6-12 months.

### 2. Market Development (Current Product + New Market)
- Expand into new geographies, target new segments, sell through new channels, adapt product for new use cases, partner with complementary companies, localize product.
- Risk: Medium. Timeline: 12-24 months.

### 3. Product Development (New Product + Current Market)
- Add features, create adjacent product lines, bundle products, develop premium/lite versions, integrate adjacent capabilities, create complementary products.
- Risk: Medium. Timeline: 12-18 months.

### 4. Diversification (New Product + New Market)
- Related or unrelated diversification, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, new business units, apply capabilities to adjacent problems.
- Risk: High. Timeline: 24+ months.

4. **Prioritize and sequence.**
   - Rank opportunities by strategic fit, revenue potential, resource feasibility, competitive advantage, and timeline to profitability.
   - In evidence-backed mode, assign a risk rating that respects the gradient (Penetration < Market Development ≈ Product Development < Diversification). A diversification move rated low risk requires extraordinary evidence.
   - Produce a recommended sequence where early, lower-risk wins fund later, higher-risk bets.
5. **Output.**
   - **Template mode:** Present the 2x2 matrix, 2-3 opportunities per quadrant, a prioritized top 2-3, a phased roadmap, and risk mitigations.
   - **Evidence-backed mode:** Use the strict schema: title, as-of date, current core, growth outcome, then four numbered quadrant sections with labeled evidence, risk ratings, and a final risk-rated sequence with the assumption that breaks it.

## Conflicts
- **phuryn/pm-skills** provides a self-contained template with example strategies and a 7-step output process ending in a phased roadmap. **deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills** requires an evidence-gated research workflow with a question budget, search plan, fact/inference labels, a strict output schema, and a risk-rated sequence, and explicitly forbids inventing data. The combined instruction supports both modes; choose based on whether the output needs to be defensible with documented evidence.
